Karii Rurup-Coleman is a California native, raised by her talented carpenter father and her lovely mother who worked in Special Education.
Karii has always been somewhat of a restless art entrepreneur--always wanting to do and learn more.
She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Creative Writing and Art along with a Masters Degree in Dance Studies from TRINITY LABAN CONSERVATOIRE OF DANCE & MUSIC in London.
After receiving her B.A. in San Francisco, She moved to New York City without a job nor a place to live. In a few days, she landed a waitress job and a place to stay.
She then began an internship with FILMMAKER MAGAZINE, which lead her to work with one of the top independent film companies in Manhattan. Simutaneously, she continued to perform, write and create art.
Returning to San Francisco, she attended a Cuban dance workshop, where the choreographer invited her to Cuba. Before she knew it, she was on a plane, heading to soak up the vibrant latin culture for months--giving her an even broader perspective of art & culture and discovering her purpose within it.
Karii was still hungry for more, taking her to Europe. She lived in Berlin, studying contemporary dance...which brought her to audition for LABAN in London. It was there where she began to learn the many facets of performance, from art, choreography to performing.
Karii then found herself in Los Angeles, where she met a director of photography for film. He recognized her eye right away, and hired her to be a part of his camera crew--working on both Independent and HOllywood features. Karii has an unsettling passion for the arts, never stopping at one.
Today, she lives & runs her own business in San Francisco, continues to paint, draw, teach, dance, & take photographs while spending loads of time with her vibrant children and loving husband. She dedicates A THOUSAND TINY PIECES to her talented & fierce brother, her fearless father & her late angelic mother--who never turned their backs...always showing her true unconditional love & support along with a little added fire under her ass.
